More About General Braxton Bragg:

General Braxton Bragg was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. He was born on March 22, 1817 in Warrenton, North Carolina. Bragg was a West Point graduate and served in the Mexican-American War, where he distinguished himself as a capable commander.

At the outbreak of the Civil War, Bragg joined the Confederate Army and was appointed as a brigadier general. He served in a variety of roles, including as commander of the Army of Mississippi and the Army of Tennessee.

One of Bragg’s most significant victories was the Battle of Perryville in 1862, where he defeated the Union forces led by General Don Carlos Buell. However, he also suffered a number of defeats, including at the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863, where his army was routed by the Union forces led by General William Rosecrans.

Despite his successes and failures, Bragg was a controversial figure within the Confederate Army. He was known for his strict discipline and harsh treatment of his soldiers, which earned him the nickname “Bragg the Beast.” He was also unpopular with his subordinates, who often complained about his leadership style.

After the war, Bragg retired from the military and worked as a sugarcane planter in Louisiana. He died on September 27, 1876 at the age of 59. Despite his controversial reputation, Bragg is remembered as a dedicated and capable commander who played a significant role in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
